F. Peyrou, La Comunidad de Ciudadanos
Editor/s: Florencia Peyrou
Publication date: 10/1/2006
Florencia Peyrou’s El discurso democratico-republicano en España (1840-1868) consists of a careful reading of the political discourse of the democratic-republican movement in Spain at a critical juncture in its development. It shows how the movement unified around an idea of ‘universal’ male citizenship, only to be torn apart because of divergent general visions of the relations between individuals and society. Peyrou addresses a historical period of great importance in the development of Spanish – and, indeed, European – citizenship. The volume constitutes a significant and innovative contribution to the study of European political culture.
